Nissen Reunion, 12-14 July 2002
Dear Uncle Bob, Aunt Puffy, Bill and Tracy,
We wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.
The Nissen Family Reunion weekend that you hosted was a GREAT EVENT!
It was the first time that I've seen Vivian and Richie's families, ever. I'm glad Matt and emy were able to be there for the reunion. We were real happy to see all the kids get together. When I visited Monkey House Sunday morning it was as full of life and enrgy as it was in the days when I was a child.
You've made a lot of changes in Camp. The night time flood lights make a big difference. I don't think I've visited Hillsboro in the late summer since 1978. It's my favorite time of year. I should make that trip more often.
It was a real "jolt" to arrive back in the city after spending time in the woods and cabins of Hillsboro Camp. It let me realize how much my attention is caught by the distractions of the city.
The meals were super! I wish we had been there for Friday evening too. It was a lot of fun sitting in the Mess Hall, washing dishes, and being by the lake. For me it brought back many pleasant memories of the summers at Camp and doing work with Uncle Bob in the fall, summer, and spring. (And in retrospect, shoveling off the Mess Hall porch in the winter with Jim and Harry.)
The hot showers were luxurious. I didn't realize how much I would have missed them until I tried them out Saturday afternoon after swim call.
We had a lot of fun canoeing, paddling around the lake, and sitting on the T-dock at the swimming beach. The fireplace in Nut House is a special treat.
It was the event of a lifetime to have all the cousins together for the Nissen Reunion. I'm very glad that you put it together. It was good to see Alice there.
It takes incredible amount of energy to produce a weekend like that. It was a special experience for all of us. I'm glad Matt and Emy were able to get a taste of what our summers were like growing up around Hillsboro Camp.
